Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan came to Kathmandu on Monday amidst huge fanfare.  The  star who is often known as the ‘Baadshah of Bollywood’ arrived to promote Kansai Paints Nepal’s ‘U-Can’ initiative. Shah Rukh is the brand ambassador of Nerolac paints, which is manufactured in Nepal by Kansai Nepal Paints.

The initiative, which has been described as a green-initiative by the company, will encourage people to convert used Nerolac paint cans into beautiful flowerpots and add to their homes’ décor while preserving the environment.

On reaching the Hyatt Regency, Boudha, and taking the stage, the actor emphasised on the need to be beneficial to others and save our environment. “One who serves other is the king,” the man touted as the King of Bollywood said.

Further, describing Nepal as a beautiful place, he said that he wished to visit the Himalayan country with his kids in the future.

Earlier, he tweeted after arriving at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Khan took to twitter.

Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd (KNPL), a subsidiary of Kansai Paints Company Ltd, Japan, commenced its operations in Nepal under the brand name Kansai Paints Nepal Pvt Ltd. Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd (KNPL) had acquired 68 per cent stake in Nepal Shalimar last year. Kansai Paints Nepal Pvt Ltd would be utilizing the manufacturing set-up of Nepal Shalimar to manufacture Nerolac range of products that are currently exported to Nepal.


At the launch ceremony of Kansai Paints in Kathmandu, Ishino, President, Kansai Paints Company Ltd, Japan, HM Bharuka, MD, Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd, India, and Anuj Jain, Director of Marketing & Sales (Decorative), Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd, India were present. The function was also attended by over 400 dealers.


Ishino said, “With our presence in about seventeen countries across the globe, it gives us immense pride to commence our operations in Nepal. This association will help us offer our international expertise and superior range of products to our consumers in Nepal”. “With KNPL’s entry in the Himalayan state, we aim to provide products that are not only best in performance, but also those that are safe and minimize impact on the environment,” said HM Bharuka, Managing Director, Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd, India.


Kansai Nerolac Paints acquired the stake in the company last year for Rs 12.58 crore. Further, the company has given a loan of Rs 10.20 crore to fund the working capital requirement of Nepal Shalimar Pvt Ltd (NSPL). The investment by the company in NSPL has been approved by the authorities concerned in India and Nepal.


In tune with its parent company Kansai Paints Company Ltd, Japan; Kansai Paints Nepal Pvt Ltd will place a strong focus on sustainable sensibilities. The brand will strongly advocate the use of no VOC paints and promote healthy homes concept to the consumers in Nepal.
